Zotero RC1 Released

Zotero, a free research extension for Firefox, just released its release candidate 1. I have been using it in all of the beta stages. It is a great tool that really helps build a bibliography in any output style you want. I used it with Ebscohost and other online libraries. It allowed me to easily build my bibliography for a NIH grant and exported it to Word 2003 in APA style. If I only would have used this great tool for my dissertation...

2. You can share your vocabulary sets with classmates and get email notification when others make sets for you.
3. You can import words from a file without having to retype them into Quizlet.
4. Quizlet has accent buttons for typing letters in foreign languages.
5. You can discuss sets (and gossip about teachers!) with classmates via instant discussion boxes.
6. Quizlet works in any language. If you can type it into your keyboard, you can study it on Quizlet.

A new School Year

Well... I can't believe it but the school year is starting again. Typically, I am the one flying into the school year helping educators around the state without a care in the world. Things have changed this year. Jackson turned 5 on July 31 this year and promptly started kindergarten. So, I guess I am the one who gets to start worrying now with all the other parents in my boat.

Back Again.... Resources for the Fall

Two blogs I subscribe to are authored by Wesley Fryer (http://www.speedofcreativity.org/) and Richard McManus (http://www.readwriteweb.com/). For most of you Wesley's blog would be more appropriate to keep tabs on if you wish. Anyway, both have two interesting posts that are worth sharing today.

Wesley just added a new page on his blog titled Videos for PD (http://www.speedofcreativity.org/resources/videos-for-pd/). Some of the topics of interest cover Digital Storytelling Examples and Internet Safety. Definitely a worth the effort to view a couple of the videos.

Richard posted that Google has added StarOffice to its Google Pack (Post). Google Pack is a nice, quick resource a handful of applications most Windows users commonly use. While it more than likely will not be allowed to be installed in your district, this is a great resource to use personally. StarOffice is an open-source Office Application suite that performs the same actions as Microsoft Office. Read more about the suite here (http://www.sun.com/software/star/staroffice/index.jsp).
