So, as I am sure for most, this is a great time of year. One where children wake up earlier and are a twitter with excitement over the coming of Santa Claus. I would just like to wish all my friends and family a very Merry Christmas and happy holidays. I hope that each of you has a very relaxing time off work and remember to enjoy the time you spend around those you love.

Have You Ever Had This Conversation Before?

34810.strip.print.gif

So... have you ever had this conversation before concerning vacant office space with your job? So many thoughts come to mind relative to this strip... Like...

We lost a couple of people this week. I am gonna need you to come in this weekend... or...

We have an auditor coming in to "place" random people in empty spots in our offices. Spread some papers around so it can "look lived in"...

Cousins Meet...

Cousins1
Originally uploaded by cpudawg2k

So, during Thanksgiving Break this year, cousins met and reunited this year. It was definitely a great time had by all. Notice any resemblances???

Anyway, it will never cease to amaze me how cousins instantaneously bond like brothers whether it was the first time they have ever met or the one thousandth.

Dilbert of the Day

So many things can be said about this one... meetings which are typically interminable if they do not have focus, taking technology out of the hands of people that use it for productivity, crushing one's souls, which people who know me know how I feel about that one...

ummm.... Been Here Before???

Free Ringer

OK... gonna try this over the weekend... But on the surface it looks pretty cool... Found via Lifehacker (a good blog with a wealth of info)...

Webapp FreeRinger makes free PC-to-phone calls from your browser to over 30 different countries across the globe-or at least that's the idea. FreeRinger is powered by another free international calling service, Talkster. The calls are ad-supported, so you never have to pay anything, and since the app runs from your browser as a Flash application, you don't have to install anything to use it. Unfortunately FreeRinger, I wasn't able to successfully log in when testing FreeRinger (even after forwarding port 1935, as the troubleshooting page recommended), so I wasn't able to verify the quality. If you give it a try and have better luck, let's hear how it worked in the comments.

Insect Collections...

I got flashbacks this weekend to insect collection requirements during the course of all the years of science classes I had to take when I ran across a walking stick at the cabin...

Question...

How come any time you wanted to find a walking stick or praying mantis they were nowhere to be found???

No fish this weekend... Got some scouting reports from my uncle, so it is game on next weekend...

It Hurts with the Parallels...

Dilbert's daily comments relative to life in the workplace some times hit so close to home... However, as pessimistic as this viewpoint seems, I have found that if you focus on long term goals and break those down in a timeline of related milestones for those goals you can overcome any barriers whether external or internal. Hello, Tony Robbins... :)

Viewing MSU's Ginormotron Tomorrow

So, MSU has placed a huge, multi-panel display above the M Club building... The shadow that things casts is ridiculous... I cannot wait to see it in person when I attend the MSU-UK game tomorrow at 1:30.

So a couple of thoughts about it...

I am for it if we actually do cool things on it (like give REAL-time scores all the time and show highlights of other games during breaks). The thing about the real-time scores is a big one for me. I have a big problem that the scoreboard crew cannot provide of this when I can get it on my phone at any time and the whole stadium is WiFI-enabled. It is called ESPN CFB Scoreboard... Google it...

It should help attract some recruits.
It will heighten the fan experience (if #1 is met).

So, don't think I am being negative about it. I like the idea we have the second largest... panel in the country. Here is a pic nabbed from Veazey's blog and a link to his article.

Rays Fans Suck...

Red Sox Rays Baseball
Originally uploaded by cpudawg2k

So, the TB Rays won last night... I hate it... I still think the Sox where the better team... Losing Ramirez I think hurt them more than people will let on... Serious power outage....

Anyway, what killed me the most was seeing all the "throngs" of Rays fans cheering on their team... Most were donning shiny new jerseys since they were watching a Rays game for the first time...

Think I am off base??? The Rays averaged 22,259 this year with an overall attendance 800K below the A.L. average. Their game average was 16K below the Red Sox... Sour grapes? Sure... But it does sicken me to see fans so behind a team when they haven't shown up all year...

My little 6 year old

Jackson

Where did they learn how to be so sneaky? I guess they learned it from the best... Their parents...

Anyway, the great thing about sitting on 16 acres off a lake is the fact that he can take his battery-powered four-wheeler anywhere without getting in any trouble... And he loves it too...

Fishing in October

Jackson - Fishing
Originally uploaded by cpudawg2k
So, I hung out with Jackson, my 6-year old son this weekend in Kosciusko. My grandfather built a cabin on a lake (which he also built) in Kosciusko, MS. It sits on 16 acres with a great view. It was a really great time. He rode his 4-wheeler, we went to the MSU-Vandy game, and fished all 3 days. Really good times...
